Education in Musoma Rural

The Mara Region near Lake Victoria in Tanzania,  has about 1.360.000 inhabitants. The Musoma Rural District, which is the central district of the Mara Region, has a population of 330.000 inhabitants. The Musoma Rural District is largely an agricultural area, about 80%, and a smaller percentage of livestock farming and fishing.  

The Musoma Rural District is relatively poor and undeveloped. It has the lowest percentage of secondary schools in the country. 94% of the children in the district obtain a certain level of primary school education, and only 4% receive a secondary school level education.

Educational language : Swahili.

 

At this level, the pupils are day students and return home every evening. What is needed are thus classrooms, libraries, teachers housing and administration offices.

 

 

SECONDARY SCHOOL

 

Lower Secondary

Age level from: 14 to 18

Certificate/diploma awarded: Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) or East Africa General Certificate of Education (GCE) "O" levels

Upper Secondary

Type of school providing this education: Upper Secondary School

Length of program in years: 2

Age level from: 18 to 20

Certificate/diploma awarded: Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSE)

Educational language: English.

 

At this stage, a lot of the students are borders and are to live in the school dormitories during the school term. Apart from classrooms, libraries, teachers' housing and administration offices, the school also needs dormitories, dinning halls, kitchens, multi-functional halls and sports grounds and sports facilities.
