The
school draws its name from Hon. Nimrod Mkono, Member of Parliament
- Musoma Rural. Located at Bisumwa Village this school was
earlier known as Bisumwa Sec school. The school was built by villagers
from Bisumwa, Nyabekwabi, Nyarukoru, and Nyabange with great
donation of funds for buying materials from Hon. Nimrod Mkono.
Mkono
Secondary School, situated on a small hill near the town of
Bisumwa, was opened as a day school two years ago in January 2005. It
is a community school build by the villagers from Bisumwa,
Nyabekwabi, Nyarukoru, and Nyabange
and named after Hon. Nimrod E. Mkono who contributed financial
support for building materials and furniture.
Currently 261 students are taught at the school, attending Form
One respectively Form Two. Approximately three quarters of the
students are boys, which is considered normal in the rural areas
of
Tanzania
, Ms. Susanna James, one of the teachers, explained. In the
teaching-free period the school opens its doors for tuition
classes for students from all over the ward. The classes are
supervised by Secondary School Graduates who plan to follow a
universitary career and get a diploma in education in the
future. The
Mkono
Secondary School
gives them an excellent chance to practice their skills and on
the same time provides support for students who need help to
graduate from Secondary School. In January 2007 circa 120 new
students are expected. 6 teachers are supported by 4 part-time
lecturers who have 6 comfortably spaced classroom for their
disposal. Every classroom is currently furnished with desks and
chairs for every student. A building for the new Form One is in
the progress but not finished yet. Furthermore the school is
currently still lacking furniture for the new students.
According to Ms. James, the building will be finished in time
but the villagers have no financial means to buy desks and
chairs.
